Argentina Iguazu Falls
Pictures Boardwalk, Upper Circuit Trail at Iguazu water falls
I took these pictures on the Argentina Iguazu Falls boardwalk, on a hot and humid mid morning, as I walked along the Upper Circuit Trail. (Yes, there's a Lower Circuit Trail, too! See Iguazu Falls maps here.) This time of day is possibily the worst for picture taking as the sun is directly overhead. As well, recent heavy rains had washed out some of the upper and lower circuit trail boardwalks. But where you are on a tour, you go with the flow (no pun intended); when the tour goes, you go, and you're thrilled to be there, close up to these amazing Iguazu water falls.
Iguazu Falls Boardwalk on the Upper Circuit Trail
The Iguazu water falls Upper Circuit Trail boardwalk takes in five viewing platforms where visitors can stop to take pictures.
At the end of the upper circuit trail, everyone retraces the route until they reach the start of the Lower Circuit Trail.
In this picture, you can see how the boardwalk bridge takes you right along the top edge of a water falls. The muddy waters bear testament to the heavy rains upstream.
All along the boardwalk and trails, newcomers and 'already been theres' sidled past each other, or waited for a clear path so they could continue thier tour. A number of trail walkers were wearing bathing suits, or halter tops and shorts (women). My guess is they were repeat visitors, likely from more casual Brazil, who knew what to expect -- heat and humidity!
Upper Circuit Trail at Argentina Iguazu Falls
The Upper Circuit Trail boardwalk bridge takes you right to the edge of this water falls. Admission to Iguazu park, a Unesco World Heritage site, is about $10 U.S. (half price for second consecutive day).
At the time of my visit, the admission fee included two rides on the park train (to and from the Iguazu National Park office area to the boardwalk trails, as well as the boat to San Martin island.
Because the sections of track to Devil's Throat Falls (Upper circuit trail) had been washed out due to recent heavy rains and flooding, as were the paths on San Martin Island (lower circuit trail), our group went on neither of these excursions.
Tours of Argentina Iguazu Falls Boardwalk and Trails include Moon Walks
Tours usually take place during the park hours : In Summer (September 1-March 31) Iguazu Park is open from 8 a.m.- 7 p.m. daily; in Winter (April 1-August 31) the park hours are 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. Throughout the year, for 5 nights at the time of each full moon, Iguazu Falls park offers guided evening tours called Moon Walks. Wear good walking shoes, as paths can be very slippery, and take along your mosquito repellant just in case. Mosquitoes are more prevalent at dusk and usually these tours begin later in the the evening, depending of the best time for viewing the full moon.
