Circular Quay Sydney Australia

Sydney Ferry Train Bus Terminal, Cahill Walk

Circular Quay in Sydney Australia is on Sydney Cove near Sydney Harbour Bridge (site of the New Years Eve Fireworks), Sydney Opera House, Overseas cruise passenger terminal and much else! From here, you can take ferries to Manly, Watson's Bay, or anywhere around the harbour and out to Parramatta.

Circular Quay (pronounced KEY) is a City Rail station (Intercity trains connect at Central Station), and a city bus stop, including the free Sydney Shuttle that operates days in the Central Business District. If you're coming to Sydney, chances are you will find yourself at Circular Quay at lot!

For an overview of Circular Quay, I took this picture from an upper walkway around the Sydney Opera House.

Circular Quay wharf is where you can see the ferries docked, and a yellow and green ferry heading out.

Circular Quay train station is the grey building above the docked boats.

The Cahill Expressway (see picture below) runs above the train station.

Here's a closer look at Circular Quay from street level outside the Station.

This sidewalk filled with people and buskers is located between the ferries wharves (left) and the train station, the grey building.

Walk through this building (there are shops, restrooms and ticket booths inside) to the pedestrian mall.

Alfred Street is where the bus stops are located, and a McDonalds and Sydney Customs House.

In Australia, they drive on the left. If you are used to traffic on the right,  pay attention when you cross the street

Walk towards the Sydney Harbour Bridge to find this plaque.

The Rocks tourist and historic area and Overseas Cruise Ship Terminal are ahead and left of this plaque and map at the west end of Circular Quay.

The Museum of Contemporary Art is to the left.

On weekends, vendors set up a market near George and Argyle Streets.  The names don't matter -- just follow the crowd!

Here's a little known or used spot to get great views of Sydney Cove, the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge and all the ferries scooting back and forth.

See the glass area running along the right side of the picture?

That's one of two glass elevators that go 5 storeys between Circular Quay and the Cahill Expressway Walk.

When you are at Circular Quay, walk towards the Opera House. Go past the Manly Ferry dock, and before the promenade turns  towards the Opera House, look for this elevator off by itself.

Cahill Walk is where I watched the Sydney NY Eve Fireworks. The elevator doesn't operate on New Years Eve.

Though I've been to Circular Quay many times over the years, I'd never even noticed Cahill Walk.

And, asking my friends in Sydney, most of them said they hadn't, either!

Restrooms are located near wharf 3 and wharf 5. Just follow the signs.

Cahill Walk is wheelchair accessible via the elevators and the wide level sidewalk along the expressway, with a covered seating area in the middle.
