Costa Rica Hotel Adventure Inn

I stayed at the Adventure Inn, a great boutique hotel near the San Jose airport that provides free airport transfers, English speaking staff and comfortable rooms, breakfast included.

As well, hotel staff can book a wide range of Costa Rica day trips and multi-day tours to volcanos, coffee plantations. Would I stay here again? In a heartbeat! Here are some pictures taken in and around the hotel.

When I found a great last minute airfare to Costa Rica, I had to scramble to find a place to stay before I could confirm the flight.

Between a google search and a Twitter shout out for recommendations, I had a booking at the Adventure Inn within the hour.

It wasn't until after I booked the hotel via the toll-free number that a twitterpal replied: "Stay at the Adventure Inn - we loved it!"

Free airport transfers (about 10 minutes by cab, depending on traffic), free hot breakfast (Tico or American), English speakers, free internet (large open area with 4 computers on second level), nice rooms, and Bonus! for setting my mind at ease, as a solo Canadian woman traveler: Canadian owners. Always nice to run into someone from home when you are on the road!

I actually had two rooms at the Adventure Inn. The first room faced the courtyard atrium on the ground floor, and after a few minutes, I realized I wanted a quieter, outside-facing room (though noise proved not to be an issue the entire week), and the staff cheerfully moved me to another room right away.

When you want to use the hot tub / jacuzzi (blue cover in photo), staff will remove the cover. A new swimming pool is located to the right, far end of the courtyard, out of view.

The combo dining room bar, located to the left rear of this picture, opens at 6 a.m. so if you have an early morning tour  pick up time (full day tours pick up around 6:30 a.m. - 7:00 a.m.), you still have time for a full breakfast.

There is free parking in the front of the Adventure Inn with 24 / 7 security -- staff, cameras and these stone statues :)

There is a seating area out front for smokers who stay at the No Smoking hotel, and a grassy area out back where those traveling with dogs can take them for a romp.

The rooms are a good size, with satellite televison, phone and coffee making machine. The bathroom had a large shower and a bidet. There is lots of storage space and hangers.

While the hotel front desk may be able to change money if you need a few colones to tide you over, there is an ATM in the AMPM grocery store in a nearby plaza.

From the Adventure Inn, it's about a 10 minute walk west; just walk alongside the street to this sign. I bought snacks and lunch here, though there's a vending machine in the hotel lobby if you get midnight munchies.

One of the guests was a great walker, and he crossed the highway at the pedestrian overpass and continued west for about 15 minutes to get to a larger plaza.  There's also a small plaza that backs onto the Adventure Inn road with a dress shop, a hair salon, and a medical office.

I enjoyed my stay at the Costa Rica hotel Adventure Inn. As a small, boutique hotel, I was able to meet many of the guests. I ate most of my meals in the dining room, and had a chance to chat with long-stay and repeat guests.  The internet room is also a great meeting place, with a comfy sofa and a lending library.

And, when my return flight was delayed for a day, I also had the chance to spend a night at the Best Western Hotel Irazu not far from here.
