Iguazu Falls Hotel ~ Argentina Tours
Sheraton Hotel in Iguazu National Park, Hotel St. George in Puerto Iguazu
To get a room at an Iguazu Falls hotel - especially the Sheraton Hotel, located within Iguazu National Park -- you need to book early to avoid being disappointed.
And since the Argentina national parks are not likely to permit any new hotels within their boundaries (see maps page), the Sheraton Hotel will likely retain its unique location. Many other hotels are located within a half hour drive to Iguazu Falls, including the Hotel St. George in nearby Puerto Iguazu, and a few others along RN 12 between the Iguazu (IGR) airport into Puerto Iguazu.
If you are planning tours of the Argentina Iguazu Falls, but plan to stay at a hotel on the Brazil side, then you may also be interested in checking out Fos de Iguacu hotel. But whether you stay in Puerto Iguazu, in an Iguazu Falls hotel, or somewhere in between, you will need a hotel room. Why? There's just too much to see, and too little time to fly in and out from Buenos Aires on the same day. Details on the Iguazu gallery page. Find Argentina travel information.
Iguazu Falls Hotel ~ Sheraton Hotel in Iguazu national park
As the only hotel in Argentina's Iguazu Falls National Park, the Sheraton is often fully booked months in advance. And of course, I couldn't get a room at the time of my visit. The rates run around $200 US per night, and as thrifty as I am, I would gladly pay the going rate to be in an Iguazu Falls hotel, to have the luxury of walking the upper circuit and lower circuit trails and when I wanted to.
I took this picture just past noon on a tour from Puerto Iguazu where I had a room at the Hotel St. George. Tours from Puerto Iguazu run between 9 a.m. and noon. Next time, if I can't get a room at the Sheraton hotel, I'll take a cab from town and tour the park on my own. The park office has a good map of the trails. The airport bus route is through the park, with a stop here to and from Puerto Iguazu for Sheraton guests.
Iguazu Falls sends misty calling card to guests at the Sheraton Hotel
From the park office, a 20 minute walk along easy trails through the 'jungle' leads to falls views. It is very hot, and very humid very early in the day, so make sure you have a hat and sunscreen. Pack lots of water, as the first stop at a cafe is a long way off.
The morning sun is almost directly in line with falls views, an angle that's absolutely abysmal for photos. Even the park photographer, who trails along making a video, photoshops his digital stills into a perfect background before he offers them for sale. If you can stay in the park, you have the chance to take photos throughout the day, and catch the best light.
Hotel St George Puerto Iguazu Argentina ~ A view of the pool
With no room at the Sheraton Hotel (though I did have a very lunch there, and a chat with a lovely older couple from the UK who had won their trip to Argentina in a contest), I took a room at the Hotel St. George in nearby Puerto Iguazu.
Some rooms had been renovated, but I had one of the older rooms in the three storey hotel. Ask before you book. The pool was quite nice, as was the poolside bar, and in the afternoons, a lively group gathered there for tanning and meeting friends.
The Hotel St.George is the site of the very popular La Esquina restaurant. See Puerto Iguazu page for details and more pictures.
