Katoomba Falls Blue Mountains ~ Australia Travel

Prince Henry Cliff Walk Scenic World to Three Sisters Echo Point

Wooden sign post gives directions to Katoomba Falls trail outside Scenic Worl in Blue Mountains. I got a close look at Katoomba Falls in the Blue Mountains, Australia, on an afternoon walk from Scenic World to Three Sisters at Echo Point.

This direction sign is near where I picked up the trail near the Scenic World building. The walk time indicated is 45 minutes, and I would agree that is accurate.

But do allow time for stopping and for rough or muddy trails if it's been raining recently.

Carry water and a snack, and do wear good shoes. Plan for rain, and pack some sunscreen.

Katoomba Falls from Lookout on Prince Henry Clif Walk Trail, Blue Mountains Outlook on Furber Steps walking trail gives great viwe of Katoomba Falls, Blue Mountains, Australia.

Here's one view of Katoomba Falls, as seen from the Cliff Walk trail.

This morning, I had walked down the Furber Steps and taken the train car to Scenic World.

After lunch from the cafeteria, I  set out to walk to Three Sisters Echo Point, to catch the tour bus back to Katoomba and my hotel at Leura.

I took this walk on my fourth day in Leura / Katoomba, as it promised to be the best weather.

Even so, mists hung over the valleys and treetops, and sporadic sunshine added to the humidity.

I took this picture, too, from the Furber Steps, and I am glad I did.

There are three main crossings at Katoomba Falls - the top, near the middle, and from the bottom -- and from the first two vantage points, the trails are too close to the falls, and your view is obscured by the rain forest (Can't see the Falls for the Trees).

It had rained heavily at times for the three days prior to my Cliff Walk, and I'd hoped to see more water falling.

Walking Trail to Katoomba Falls Blue Mountains a Muddy ChallengeKatoomba Falls walking trail wet and muddy after rains in Blue Mountains, Australia.

It was muddy, it was narrow, and it was hot.

Here's a photo showing just this small stretch of the walking trail heading down to where you can cross a section of Katoomba Falls.

As you can see, there's a good guard rail on the downhill side, so it's not likely you'll slide off the mountain.

The uphill side is very steep, so walking above the trail is not an option.

But this picture shows how muddy the walking trails can be, hence the urging for good walking shoes rather than bare feet in sandals.

And the number of footprints in mud show how popular this trail to Katoomba Falls is.

This picture shows roughly the center part of Katoomba Falls.

At the bottom of the Valley, in Federal Pass area, you may well get a different view.

You can get an idea in the second picture from the top how Katoomba Falls has different levels or sections.

I think this view is roughly in the middle part of the Falls.

From Scenic World, the Cliff Walk trail went downwards for about 20 minutes to get to this point.

Once across the river, I followed the trail as it climbed steeply back up to the top of the cliff, and a further half hour or a bit longer to get to Three Sisters. MORE Blue Mountains.
