Nanning China Green Park
Ethnic Park, Guangxi Zhuang China Travel Pictures & Information
I was lucky! Nanning China Green Park was a few blocks from my hotel (the Majestic - list of Nanning Hotels) so I could go for a lovely afternoon walk while I was in the Green City -- Nanning (with its zoo).
The Guangxi Zhuang Ethnic Park was further away, so I went there by bus. The photos from both Green Park and Ethnic Park are posted on this page.Further afield from Nanning, I went to the caves at Yiling Scenic area, and by charter bus further north in Guangxi China, to the city of Wuzhou, before heading east through Guangxi Zhuang, to Guangzhou (on the coast near Hong Kong) to catch a flight to Beijing. Stone Bridge ~ Green Park ~ Nanning China
I love this park! And this is one of my favourite pictures! (I have it on my About Travel page, too!)
Even though you can see the smoky smog dimming the green trees in the background, Green Park a lovely respite from the busy Nanning streets outside the park gates. The other name that Roger (Nanning CITS guide) called it was Remnimbi (People's) Park. This bridge is the Moon Bridge. There was a nomimal admission fee - about 2 yuan or 40 cents.

This house was screened in and filled with pigeons, and located in another area of the park.

Tai Chi in Green Park Nanning
One day, I came here in late morning, and stopped to watch this tai chi class.

Landscaping the Park in Nanning
I always enjoy watching people work :-) especially when they are builidng something familiar, like a garden and garden beds. These everyday activities remind me that we are more alike than we are different.

Guangxi Ethnical Park, Nanning China
At the Guangxi Minorities Cultural Relics Center entrance. In the gardens area, there are a lot of wonderful relics, and I will add photos soon. This sign is outside the Museum of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The park celebrates the minorities living in this area -- and why Guangxi is a Special Autonomous Region (SAR, as is Hong Kong, among others). The museum houses the biggest bronze drum in the world. Many relics do date back to the Bronze Age, and the museum is well worth a visit.
Traditional Minorities Home
This is one of the many styles of traditional homes moved or reconstructed at this park. Isn't it gorgeous? One house -- it may have been this one -- has a tea room on the uppermost floor. The buildings are laid out along river banks and grassy areas, with bridges linking the river banks.

Carved statue at Ethnic Minorities Park Nanning
This huge circular concrete drum takes its imspriation from the orignal bronze drum. CITS arranges domestic tours of the Nanning area, and tours to Behai, on the ocean south of here.
Behai is 200 km (124 miles) from Nanning, and accessed by a 6-lane expressway. May to October are high season in Behai, and it's about a 3-hour drive. While the Behai beaches are a great attraction, I'd been told that Hainan beaches are better. See also the Nanning China government site for visitors for more information about Nanning.
