I'd come here by road with friends on a day trip, heading southeast from Valapraiso, Chile, after a Casablanca Valley winery tour. We drove southwest to Algarrobo and the coast, passing farmed forests of eucalyptus and pine. The air smelled wonderful! This house at Isla Negra (which despite the 'isla' is NOT an island), is one of three former homes of Pablo Neruda; others are located in Santiago and Valparaiso. From here, we headed north along the coast 10 km (5 miles) to El Quisco, and lunch at Los Cordoveses.
Pablo Neruda Museum at Isla Negra, Chile
This museum houses a lot of maritime memorabilia and artefacts, such as the anchor shown in the photo.
The gray siding house sits atop a hill overlooking the Pacific. In mid-December, summertime flowers were in full bloom.
Though we'd come in the busy high season, arriving around 1 p.m., we were able to join another group to tour the house. There is a small admission charge - about $5 or so (prices can change) and tours are offered in English or Spanish.

The first and second floors of the house are marked with a tiled mosaic of fish facing towards the front door.
While some think that artists' fanciful former homes are a tad Over-the-Top, I always enjoy touring them, imagining what it would be like to live in such quirky spaces.
