Playa Dorada Dominican Republic Page 02 More pictures of Playa Grande beach resort complex near Puerto Plata Dominican Republic (see all resort areas), with windsurfing, the Orange Market and Playa Dorada drivng range.
Playa Dorada (Page 01 here) east of Puerto Plata and west of Sosua and Cabarete beaches is a great complex for couples, solo travelers, young people and seniors. And if you do want to venture off the resort, take a tour to Santo Domingo, Santiago, Santo Cerro and the waterfalls, cigar factory and pottery. Airport transfer times vary from 15-30 minutes as there's a one-way road to the various hotels in the resort; guests booked into the first resort get dropped off first,
Playa Dorada DR - Dominican Beach Resort
With a large shopping mall located right on the resort, you can do all your souvenir shopping without leaving the site.
But save the shopping for when it rains, and enjoy the wonderful beach as much as you can.
Even in January, when the weather tends to be rainy, often the sudden downpours last only 10 minutes or so, and you can take cover in the beach bars or hotel patios until it stops.

Playa Grande Grand for Swimmers ~ Dominican Republic
Looking west towards Puerto Plata, waves and windsurfers make a gorgeous scene, especially when it's cold and snowy at home :-)
As you can see, the beaches appear very clean, as does the water, with the open ocean continually cleaning itself.

Two Windsurfers at Playa Dorada DR
Miles of golden sand beaches and steady winds are a magnet for windsurfers at Playa Dorada.
You can walk along this beach west, towards Puerto Plata for miles!
I took this picture some distance west of the resort, and you can see how the crowds have thinned out.
After about 15 minutes' walk, you'll see the Orange Market.

Orange Market on the Beach near Playa Dorada DR
Walking west, towards Puerto Plata, you come to this large open - air market.
Since most beach-goers don't carry cash or credit cards, especially at an all-inclusive resort, just look around at first.
Should you decide you'd like to buy something, plan to come back just to shop.
As well as T-shirts, etc they sell hand bags, paintings, table cloths and other linens, and souvenirs.

Playa Dorada DR Driving Range near Golf Course.
This driving range is right across the street from the golf course, just down the block from the Viva Wyndham driveway.
Horse drawn wagons can be hired to take you around the complex. Sorry, but I didn't check rates.
The Playa Dorada Mall is centrally located and about a 5-minute walk from the Viva. See also Playa Dorada page 01
