Playa Dorada Dominican Republic

Beach, Resort, Playa Grande, Mall, Golf

Playa Dorada Dominican Republic on Playa Grande beach is a resort with a mall and golf course near Puerto Plata Dominican Republic (see all resort areas). It's between Puerto Plata and Sosua and Cabarete beaches and well-located for day trips to Santo Domingo, Santiago, Santo Cerro and the waterfalls, cigar factory and pottery tours as well as to the Fuerte de San Felipe.

With a large shopping mall located right on the resort, you can do all your souvenir shopping without leaving the site.

Forget your sunscreen, need a beach cover up or a new sundress? Get them at the mall.

Buy liquor to take home, check out local real estate, or stop in at the bank to change your travellers checks or cash into pesos. There's even an upscale jewellery shop!

The mall is centrally located in the resort complex, or take a horse-drawn wagon.

Depending on where in the complex your hotel is located, you could be right on this beach.

Some watersports are included with your tour package, and others charge a small fee.

We spent some time watching a windsurf kite being untangled from a beach side palm tree.

I only hope they got their money back for that :-)

Anywhere on Playa Dorada, you're never far from food and drink.

When the hotels are not serving meals then a beach cafe and bar is open to all resort guests - wear your bracelet!

The beach of course faces north, so you can see the early morning shadow of the palm trees behind me.

You can walk along this beach west, towards Puerto Plata for miles! All soft, amber colored sand, and very clean.

Looking west, towards Puerto Plata and Isabel del Torres park at sunset one evening, after most of the sun crowd had gone back to their rooms to change for dinner and the evening's entertainment.

The mists on the mountains hide the cable car in Puerto Plata that, when it's operating, takes you to the top.

Playa Dorada Viva Wyndham Swimming Pool Outdoor swimming pool at resort, Playa Dorada Dominican Republic.

I stayed here at the Viva Wyndham (also called simply Viva). The outdoor pool had a waterfalls over the outdoor bar and entertainment on the patio around the pool during the afternoons.

Most of the resorts offer spa services, and massages, manicures, facials etc are reasonably priced.

The dining room is located in the building in the center of the picture. A business center with phones and internet is beside the dining room entrance.

Playa Dorada Golf Course - Dominican RepublicGolf Course on Playa Dorada resort complex, dominican republic.

The Golf course at Playa Dorada is busiest in early morning, before it gets too hot. There's also a driving range across the road.

Tip: watch out for ant hills on the fringes of the golf course where it meets the sidewalk and street.

As I was taking this photo, I felt a sharp burning and stinging on my ankles and feet, I looked down to see dozens of tiny ants all over me; the stinging lasted for about 20 minutes.

Overall, I'd recommend Playa Dorada for newby travllers, or those wanting to totally veg out and not have to think about a thing. This self-contained resort community provides a great holiday without any fuss.
