Good Place to stay near the Port in Valparaiso

I stayed at Hotel Puerta de Alcala near the port in Valapraiso, Chile. I'd come from Santiago to stay a few days before heading back east, over the Andes by bus to Argentina. I had no reservation, but luckily this 21-room hotel had one room available for this night. My only regret is that I could not stay longer. Dining room, free internet, friendly staff, lovely room and ensuite bath, close to shopping and to the port: I was very comfortable!

Though the lobby is a bit dark, this lovely atrium floods guest room floors with light.

There was a room/ business center area on this level with free internet and computers.

My room was on this, the top (fifth) floor.

Breakfast was included in the room rate (I paid about $80 for the night), and served from 7:00 a.m. in the main floor dining room.

But since I had to be at the bus terminal by then, staff served me coffee while they prepared a breakfast box for me to take with me.

The wood floors are gorgeous, as you  see can see in the photo.

Throughout Chile, Argentina and Uruguay, most hotels used wood or laminate flooring rather than carpet.

The large window overlooked the street in front of the hotel (Pirámide 524 esq. Conde), but Valparaiso, on a week night at least, is not noisy.

There was a desk and minibar, but no in-room coffee and tea. Room service is available.

The ensuite bathroom was also very nice, with lovely tile work,  a large shower and tub.
