Consider your flight times to from the Dominican, as they can vary up to several hours in total travel time. From Toronto, flights to the DR often land first in the north - Puerto Plata, Santiago, etc. then drop off and pick up passengers before continuing south to Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, etc.

The same routing might happen on the return flight. If time is at a premium, then choose direct, nonstop flights where possible.

Decide what you'd like to do in the Dominican: Some resorts are famous for golf (Cap Cana), some for mountain treks and rafting tours, some for proximity to art colonies and markets.  With these tips in mind, check out some places to go in the DR. Reminder: hurricane season in the Caribbean runs June 1 to November 30, the same as the hurricane season in the eastern U.S.A. Last minute travel deals during this time can be a bargain, but check the National Hurricane Center to see current and projected conditions.
